Other Types of Dissociative Disorders
Not all symptoms of dissociation are a sign of D.I.D. There are a total of five different types of dissociative disorders that a recognized today. Dissociative Identity Disorder is categorized by having two or more distinct personalities. The others are defined below.

Dissociative Amnesia
Is a condition where a person is unable to remember essential details from their past. This disorder occurs when a person blocks out certain information, usually associated with a stressful or traumatic event, leaving them unable to remember important personal information.

Depersonalization Derealization Disorder
This affliction consists of recurrent feelings of being detached from one's body or mental processes, usually with a feeling of being an outside observer of one's life, or of being detached from one's surroundings. The disorder is often triggered by severe stress.

Dissociative Fugue
Those with this disorder temporarily lose their sense of personal identity and impulsively wander or travel away from their homes or places of work. The condition develops due to excessive psychological trauma. The sufferer may experience memory loss and forget information related to their personal history and individuality.

Identity Alteration
Occurs when a person feels separated from different parts of themself; often represented by a shift in personality or an “alteration” of persona. An individual may also believe that they are living in a different time in their lives. These alterations can also take on physical changes such as a change in voice, use of accents, and different facial expressions.
